Studio Elektronike Rijeka Ltd. (STER), as the company engaged in production of instruments and devices for measuring, testing and navigation, is implementing an EU project entitled ”Innovative Cloud Power System Simulator – iSIMELEC”. The realization of the project will improve R&D capabilities of the company and open up the possibility for development of complex algorithms and applications based on synchronized phasor measurement techology in the field of power system management. Since it’s inception, Studio Elektronike Rijeka Ltd. is engaged in production of instruments and devices for measuring, testing and navigation, and has been involved in projects in the electricity sector and in industrial plants. The applicant provides his services to the private and public sector, both domestically and internationally, successfully collaborating on more than 10 projects. Based on the existing successful business cooperation, gained experience and recognized market needs, a business decision was made to develop and invest in Innovative Cloud Power System Simulator – iSIMELEC for the purpose of upgrading the WAMSTER platform. With further commercialization of the innovation, STER will become the first company in the Croatian and regional market to offer a new portfolio of services based on synchronized phasor measurement technology. The project will provide WAMSTER users the possibility to gain additional insight into the opportunities in the power system, taking into account the arrangement of measured units and characteristics of the system on which WAMS (Wide Area Network) is created.

The comparative advantage of the proposed simulator is that, by installing portable PMU’s, measurements are transmitted wirelessly through the mobile telephone network, which enables telecommunication-independent solution to collect data and then simulate the operation of the power system according to SAAS( System As A Service) business model.

The above mentioned presents the ideal solution for users who want to minimize costs without investing in infrastructure, hardware and software, and gain insight into power system opportunities using a standard browser on a PC or mobile device, in just 15 minutes to plug in a portable PMU.

Furthermore, the project will contribute to the growth of sales of the service portfolio and to the market recognition of STER, as a company that directs it’s own business towards projects relevant to all economic sectors and business levels and will serve as an example of good practice to competing companies. The Innovative Simulator will be produced through the call „Innovation Vouchers for SME’s (KK.03.2.2.03), and based on the Voucher Granting Agreement in the process of granting non-refundable funds for projects financed from the OP Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020.

The implementation of the project and its activities directly contributes to the achievements of specific results, as well as the achievements of common indicators of the direct results of the Call „Innovation Vouchers for SME’s“.

INOVATIVNI SIMULATOR ELEKTROENERGETSKOG SUSTAVA U OBLAKU – iSIMELEC

Poduzeće koje se bavi proizvodnjom instrumenata i aparata za mjerenje, ispitivanje i navigaciju, Studio Elektronike Rijeka d.o.o. (STER), provodi EU projekt pod nazivom ”INOVATIVNI SIMULATOR ELEKTROENERGETSKOG SUSTAVA U OBLAKU – iSIMELEC”. Realizacijom ovog projekta unaprijediti će se istraživačko-razvojni kapaciteti tvrtke i otvoriti mogućnost za razvoj kompleksnih algoritama i aplikacija zasnovanih na tehnologiji sinkroniziranih mjerenja fazora u području vođenja EES-a.

Studio Elektronike Rijeka d.o.o. od svog osnutka pa do danas se bavi proizvodnjom instrumenata i aparata za mjerenje, ispitivanje i navigaciju te posluje na projektima u elektroenergetskom sektoru i industrijskim postrojenjima. Svoje usluge prijavitelj pruža privatnom i javnom sektoru, kako na inozemnom tako i na domaćem tržištu, s kojim je do sada uspješno surađivao na više od 10 projekata. Temeljem postojeće uspješne poslovne suradnje, stečenog iskustva i prepoznate potrebe na tržištu, donesena je poslovna odluka za razvoj i investiciju u INOVATIVNI SIMULATOR ELEKTROENERGETSKOG SUSTAVA U OBLAKU – iSIMELEC za potrebe nadogradnje platforme WAMSTER. Daljnjom komercijalizacijom ove inovacije, STER će postati prva tvrtka na hrvatskom i regionalnom tržištu koje će ponuditi novi portfelj usluga temeljenih na tehnologiji sinkroniziranih mjerenja fazora.

Predmetni projekt korisnicima WAMSTER sustava pružiti će mogućnost da steknu dodatni uvid u prilike u EES-u na promatranom području, uzevši u obzir raspored mjernih jedinica i karakteristike sustava na kojem se kreira WAMS (Wide Area Network).

Komparativna prednost predloženog simulatora je što, ugradnjom prijenosnih PMU-a koje mjerenja prenose bežičnom mrežom mobilne telefonije, omogućuje telekomunikacijski neovisno rješenje za prikupljanje podataka i zatim simulaciju rada EES-a prema SAAS (System As A Service) poslovnom modelu.

Navedeno predstavlja idealno rješenje za korisnike koji žele minimizirati troškove bez ulaganja u infrastrukturu, sklopovlje i programsku podršku te steći uvid u prilike u EES-u koristeći standardni pretraživač na računalu ili mobilnom uređaju, u svega 15-ak minuta koliko traje priključak pojedine PM prijenosne jedinice.

Nadalje, projekt će doprinijeti rastu prodaje portfelja usluga te tržišnoj prepoznatljivosti tvrtke STER, kao tvrtke koje vlastito poslovanje usmjerava k projektima bitnim za sve gospodarske sektore i razine poslovanja te će služiti kao primjer dobre prakse konkurentnim društvima.

Inovativni simulator izradit će se putem poziva “Inovacijski vaučeri za MSP-ove” (KK.03.2.2.03), a temeljem Ugovora o dodjeli vaučera u postupku dodjele bespovratnih sredstava za projekte koji se financiraju iz Programa OP Konkurentnost i kohezija 2014.-2020. godine.

Provedbom projekta i njegovih aktivnosti, direktno se doprinosi ostvarenju specifičnih rezultata, kao i ostvarenju zajedničkih pokazatelja neposrednih rezultata Poziva „Inovacijski vaučeri za MSP-ove.

Projekt pod nazivom “Inovativni simulator elektroenergetskog sustava u oblaku – iSIMELEC” (KK.03.2.2.03.0029).

Studio Elektronike Rijeka d.o.o.  (STER) potpisao je Ugovor o suradnji s Tehničkim fakultetom Sveučilišta u Rijeci o pružanju usluga izrade inovativne platforme čije je sufinanciranje STER ostvario putem poziva “Inovacijski vaučeri za MSP-ove” (KK.03.2.2.03), a temeljem Ugovora o dodjeli vaučera u postupku dodjele bespovratnih sredstava za projekte koji se financiraju iz Programa OP Konkurentnost i kohezija 2014.-2020. koji je STER potpisao s Ministarstvom gospodarstva, poduzetništva i obrta za provedbu projekta “Inovativni simulator elektroenergetskog sustava u oblaku – iSIMELEC” (KK.03.2.2.03.0029).

Kratki opis projekta:

Inovativni simulator omogućit će modeliranje i simulaciju rada elektroenergetskog sustava u oblaku (eng. Innovative simulator of electric power system in Cloud – iSIMELEC), koristeći pritom arhitekturu platforme WAMSTER za prikupljanje i vizualizaciju podataka iz jedinica za sinkronizirana mjerenja fazora. Za potrebe nadogradnje platforme te razvoja slijednih rješenja i aplikacija u sektoru elektroenergetike, cilj projekta je definiranje parametara modela mreže i izrada matematičkog modela EES-a, prikupljanje podataka o mrežnoj topologiji i uklopnom stanju sustava, provedba analize osmotrivosti sustava i redundancije mjerenja, obrada grubih pogrešaka u mjerenjima te određivanje strujno-naponskih prilika.

Ciljevi i očekivani rezultati:

Realizacijom projekta će se unaprijediti istraživačko-razvojni kapaciteti tvrtke i otvoriti mogućnost za razvoj kompleksnih algoritama i aplikacija zasnovanih na tehnologiji sinkroniziranih mjerenja fazora u području vođenja EES-a, što predstavlja jedan od budućih smjerova razvoja i nadogradnje postojeće palete proizvoda i usluga tvrtke, kako bi se izbjegli raspadi sustava često viđeni u svijetu u posljednja dva desetljeća, a koji rezultiraju prekidima u isporuci električne energije sa značajnim gubitcima.

Short description of the project:

The innovative simulator will enable modelling and work simulation of electric power system in Cloud (iSIMELEC), while using the architecture platform WAMSTER for collecting and visualizing data from synchronized phasor measurement units. For the purpose of upgrading the platform and developing sequential solutions and applications in the electricity sector, the aim of the project is to define parameters of the grid model and create a mathematical model of the power system, to collect data on the network topology and the operating status of the system, to create the system observability and measurement redundancy analysis, to process measurement errors and to determine electricity-voltage conditions.

Goals and expected results:

The realization of the project will improve R&D capabilities of the company and open up the possibility for development of complex algorithms and applications based on synchronized phasor measurement technology in the field of power system management, which presents one of the future directions of development and upgrading of the existing range of products and services of the company, in order to avoid system breakdowns often seen in the world over the last two decades, which will result in interruptions in delivery of electricity alongside significant losses.

During the last two years, more than 20 SterPMU-R1 devices have been installed on 400kV and 220kV lines and on 110kV busses critical for power evacuation from the most problematic point in transmission system: TE Plomin, HE Zakučac and HE Peruća and wind park Vrataruša.

Primary Ethernet communication is used for PDC running WAM algorithms in national dispatching center, with each device transferring dual C37.118.2 synchrophasor at 50 Hz sampling rate. Secondary GPRS line is used for system-wide event capturing with WAMSTER cloud solution without any interfering with the primary, process communication network.

On-going activities include preparation for installation in the rest of 400 kV grid stations and monitoring of 220 kV corridor in southern Croatia critical for hydro- and wind-generated power evacuation, evaluation of communication paths between PMUs and NDC, oscillation monitoring, transition from wide area monitoring to wide area monitoring, protection and control algorithms and development of tools for real-time stability assessment.

Portable wide area monitoring system consisting of 20 SterPMUs was formed in Oman in July 2016. WAMS campaign is a part of a consultancy project conducted by Tractebel Engineering, Dubai branch, for Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), Muscat. The goal of measurement campaign is providing synchrophasor data for gaining inside into OETC system dynamics and for modeling of typical general loads. SterPMUs were installed in 10 strategically selected grid stations across Main Interconnection System (MIS) in Oman and a power system in Dhofar governorate which is connected to MIS through transmission system operated by Petroleum Development Oman Company (PDO).

In each station a pair of SterPMUs are monitoring an incomer and one selected feeder. Authorized users from Tractebel, OETC and distribution companies where PMUs are installed have access to real time measurements and hysterical recordings. Event triggering system with mail and SMS alarming was configured as a part of the campaign.

Two portable PMUs were installed at SUZLON‘s windfarm at Kaladungar, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, one PMU at National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) Wind Turbine Test Station, Kayathar, Tamil Nadu and a dedicated WAMSTER server installed in Power System Operation Corporation Limited (POSOCO), New Delhi have been forming a dedicated WAMS since December 2015 as a part of a wind generation monitoring pilot project.

INA-Industrija nafte, d.d. (INA, d.d.) is a medium-sized European oil company and a leading company in Croatian oil business. A fuel refinery plant INA RNR located in Urinj has three generator sets (10MVA, 25MVA, 26 MVA) to ensure reliable power supply to important elements of the oil refinery process and prevent their unplanned and sudden shutdown. However, disturbances generated within transmission or distribution network, especially during violent summer storms, provoke negative impact and failures in plant’s power system.

Disturbance influence on frequency drives powering critical 6.6 kV and 0.4 kV loads has been assessed with 6 SterPMU devices equipped with continuous waveform recording feature. Problems with the stability of generation control revealed with the help of reference PMUs at transmission and distribution networks.
